TAPPS Notes
T.K. Gorman
Even though the Crusaders were blown out by Canton, first-year head coach Reggie Wilson saw plenty he liked against the athletic Eagles, starting with Drew Russell.
Russell beat out Carlos Grahm for the starting quarterback position, and even though he threw three interceptions, the senior was solid.
He completed seven of 22 passes for 67 yards, often taking a pounding from an aggressive Canton defensive line after releasing the ball.
Another nice surprise was tight end Nick Brunson, who was Russell's favorite target. Catching three passes for 33 yards, Brunson could be a bigger part of the offense each week, Wilson said. He added that he expects the running game to be better against a less physical opponent.
